7 Tips to THRIVE through December

The holiday season is stressful enough without doubling down feeling guilty and regretful. Make this year different!

Here’s how I help myself truly ENJOY the holidays:

  1. Cut yourself some slack. You’ve worked hard all year and deserve. Setting unrealistic expectations only primes for failure. ENJOY the day with your family and friends. Don’t make any food off limits, it will only make you want it more. Instead, enjoy and move on.

  2. Don’t skip your workout regardless of hustle and bustle: Your schedule is likely shot. Accept. You likely don’t have the normal amount of time to exercise but probably can carve out at least 10 minutes for a leisurely walk outside so get in some form of movement. Something really IS better than nothing.

  3. Say NO: Don’t feel obligated to attend EVERY SINGLE event. You can’t be everywhere and must save some ME Minutes.  

  4. Indulge ONLY in your favorites. Don’t feel you’re rude not sampling the entire platter.

  5. To help reduce stress, schedule the “must complete” tasks, like gift shopping and wrapping, then remain flexible.  If you have a plan in place then you are less likely to fret over how you will get it all done.  

  6. Stock up on convenience foods. Keep bars, hard fruits and jerky in your car and at home for times you’re stuck—you’ll be glad you did!

  7. HYDRATE! Take water with you everywhere.

Allow yourself to enjoy the season without beating yourself up and you won’t feel guilty come January 1.
